If you are based in Europe, think twice

Tried to purchase their Pro Plan shared server and had issues with my debit card. Once the card was allowed, they put my account on hold and a few hours later they sent an email explaining they have decided not to proceed with opening my account, and wishing me luck elsewhere. They didn't explain what was the problem, and didn't offer any solution. Fair enough, I will take my three businesses where they want my money. They don't know how to do business in Europe and I am glad this happened before even working with them. Most painful checkout experience I've ever had.

Green Geeks support has always been…

Green Geeks support has always been responsive, helping me navigate problems that arise. This last time was exceptional. I fell for a scam that was using fake Green Geek's emails. I placed 2 calls with them in short order, one verified it was a scam. The second call the technician helped me recognize that they had made an attempt to access my account. Thankfully, not successful as I had set up 2 step verification just prior.

I engaged Green Geeks to host one of my domains.

I engaged Green Geeks to host one of my domains because of their positive reviews and the reasonable hosting fee. I had repeated difficulty logging into my account with them due to not being able to provide a 2 FA code from an authenticator app. They never specified which Authenticator app they were using so I was never able to authenticate myself. I have used many authenticator apps (Google, Microsoft, DUO, Okta) without issue. The inability to speak with a representative by phone compounded the problem. They required me to communicate with them via chat to troubleshoot this problem. After an hour of trying to "authenticate" myself with GreenGeeks without knowing the authenticator app to use, I realized that this was not going to work for us due to the lag in support through the cha to move to a different hosting company. Unfortunately, they told me I had to log in to terminate my account even though I was still unable to authenticate myself due to the lack of guidance on the authenticator to use. Communicating by chat is not an acceptable way to resolve complex issues.

Worst Hosting Experience – Websites Down and No Urgency

Extremely disappointed with GreenGeeks. This has been one of the worst hosting support experiences we have faced. After a malware issue, GreenGeeks performed a cleanup on our hosting account. Once the cleanup was completed, they confirmed that the account was open for public access. However, 26 out of our 28 websites were still not working, and our email services were also affected. These are live business and client websites, so every hour of downtime matters. We repeatedly followed up, explained the seriousness of the situation, provided the affected websites, and requested urgent assistance. Instead of getting a quick resolution, we have been left waiting for hours with generic responses and no proper resolution. We even provided them with the exact backup date we wanted restored, yet the issue continued without the urgency expected when almost an entire hosting account is down. For a hosting company, reliability, disaster recovery and responsive technical support are fundamental services. When dozens of websites go offline simultaneously, customers should not have to continuously chase support just to get meaningful action. I am leaving this review based on our actual experience and will update it if GreenGeeks resolves the situation properly. At present, however, this experience has seriously damaged our confidence in their service.

Cancelling was not cheap

renewal was coming up for $160 and I wasn't using the site anymore so I cancelled 11 days before billing (the company states 5 days prior is fine) well guess what, today a charge to my card came through for $235. I've reached out to the company and they say they can't do much after the renewal has already gone through. also tried telling me the cancellation was for domain and not hosting but I did the cancellation through the hosting section under the auto renewal form there was no option for domain there. AVOID THIS COMPANY

Terrible Customer Service

I've had GreenGeeks for years with no issues, but I'm super disappointed in how they handled the one and only problem that came up recently. I got an email 3 days ago that my website had a malware infection and was taken down to protect the server. The email presented 2 options: I can take care of cleaning the site myself, or have them do it. There was no indication of cost or timeframe for them doing it but I thought it was the better option, so I resplied and said yes please handle it. I got an immediate response that said we are working on it, and they asked for me to monitor emails because they will likely ask questions or send updates. Next day, I sent 4 emails spread out throughout the day asking for an update with no response. The last email was telling them I'm hiring someone to look into it and please whitelist their IP address. I got an email the following morning only with confirmation that the IP address was whitelisted - they didn't answer any questions about status updates. My web developer went in and saw that they had done absolutely nothing. So that means 2 days went by while my business was losing thousands of dollars and they had done nothing. My web developer cleaned the site, so now all I needed was them to review and then re-enable the sites. But 24 more past with still no response. The last response I had from them whitelisting the IP address apologized for the lack of communication and said they work over night Monday-Friday. It's Friday and it seems like they wouldn't even get to my case until Monday.l I can't wait another day losing money so I have chosen to leave GreenGeeks. And I have spoke with a competitor who said they would have handled this in half a day, GreenGeeks is taking a full week. This is completely unacceptable so I'm outta here.

My website was down for over 3 days and…

My website was down for over 3 days and the issue was put onto a level that could only be resolved via email (not through chat). It is easy to envisage that one question and its response took one day. Indeed my website would have been down longer I have little doubt had I not found another solution outside of the email based support process. I don't understand why business critical issues are put onto a level where instant responses are fundmentally not possible.

Greengeeks' JetBackup5 backup system is deficient; it doesn't allow you to automatically restore backups as easily as Hostinger and most modern hosting providers. I don't recommend subscribing to their hosting service.
