Easiest way for a small team to sell data tools
We are a small UK software company and publish about 40 data tools on the Apify Store, sold with pay-per-event pricing. Apify handles hosting, billing and payouts, so we did not have to build any servers or payment system. Our own API also calls these Actors through the Apify API, and results come back in seconds. A paying customer found our sanctions screening tool in the Store without any marketing from us. Minus points: company verification was slow and not always clear, and as a developer I can't see the error message when a user's run fails. Still, for a small team it is the easiest way we found to sell data tools.

What do you like best about Apify?
Pay-per-event monetization is the biggest win for us. We set a price per result, and Apify handles billing, payments and payouts, so we never had to build a payment system. We publish about 40 data tools on the Store and push updates from the CLI with one command. The API is fast and simple: our own backend calls our Actors (for example sanctions screening and media transcription) and gets results back in a few seconds. The Store also brings real users. A paying customer found our sanctions screening Actor there without any marketing from our side.
What do you dislike about Apify?
Some parts take time to learn. The monetization settings and Insights pages are not very intuitive at first, and account verification steps could be explained more clearly. As a developer I would like more detail when a user's run fails, so I can improve the Actor faster. The free monthly credit is also used up quickly when you maintain many Actors.

Apify lets a very small team sell data tools without running its own infrastructure. Before Apify we would have needed servers, proxies, a billing system and a payout process. Now we publish an Actor, set a pay-per-event price, and Apify takes care of hosting, scaling, billing and payouts. We also use Actors as a backend for our own API when a job needs a real browser or heavier processing. The benefit is speed and low cost: we launched dozens of tools in a few weeks without renting a server, and we spend our time building new tools instead of maintaining infrastructure.

What do you like best about Apify?
It plugs straight into n8n. I call the run-sync endpoint with one HTTP node and get the dataset back in the same step, so there’s no polling and no extra plumbing. I use the Instagram scraper and the Instagram profile scraper as the data layer for a daily lead radar I built for a gem dealer, and they’ve been reliable. The per-call spend cap (maxTotalChargeUsd) is the feature I value most, because a bad input can never run up a bill on a client build. Pay per result keeps it cheap: my first test read 30 profiles for about eight cents. The unexpected win was being able to export a run’s dataset and build the whole engine against that saved data, so weeks of development and testing cost nothing in scraping.

The free tier is tight once you’re building something real. Unnamed datasets are deleted after about a week, which nearly cost me my test data before I learned to export it straight away. A clear warning in the console when a dataset is about to expire would fix that. Some actors also carry their own run limits on top of your account’s limits, and the difference between the two isn’t obvious in the interface, so I lost time working out why a run was refused. Showing both limits side by side on the actor page would help. The step up to the paid plan is fair for what you get, but it comes sooner than expected once a workflow runs every day, so budget for it early.

I build lead generation systems for small businesses, and the hardest part is getting clean public data without logins, proxies or scrapers I have to maintain myself. For one client, a sapphire dealer, the only alternative was scrolling Instagram by hand to find jewellers who buy coloured stones. Now Apify reads fifteen hashtag feeds a day, pulls the profiles of the accounts that look promising, and hands the data to n8n, where my workflow filters, scores and briefs each one. In testing, one run returned 69 posts across 53 accounts, and reading 30 full profiles cost about eight cents. That puts the whole daily scrape at roughly $20 a month, which makes a system like this affordable for a small business. It also means I can offer it as a product rather than as hours of manual research.

It makes it possible to scrape data that would otherwise be very difficult to collect, which saves a lot of time and effort.
What do you dislike about Apify?
There are too many scrapers for the same app, and it can get confusing at times. If I didn’t use AI agents for my work, like claude code, I don’t think I’d be able to use the actors effectively.
What problems is Apify solving and how is that benefiting you?
It’s helping me bring valuable data into both consumer apps and my personal apps, which makes it easier to use that information where I need it.

I really appreciate the actor store on Apify because it is both simple and effective, making the platform very pleasant to use. What I particularly like is the speed and clarity with which I can choose relevant actors. The platform offers a wide choice of actors, and the information is clear, allowing me to easily compare the available options. It's really convenient for my prospecting automation pipeline. Moreover, the initial setup of Apify was very simple, I have no complaints about it.

Some actors can be a bit expensive for smaller projects. Aside from that, I’ve had a good overall experience with Apify and it’s worked well for what I needed.

Apify saves me a lot of time by offering ready-made web scraping Actors. In my projects, I use the Reddit Actor to collect data without having to build an entire scraping system from scratch. As a result, my development process is faster, simpler, and much easier to manage.

Reliable Actor Marketplace and MCP Server for Easy AI Agent Integration
What do you like best about Apify?
What I like most is the Actor marketplace and the MCP server, which lets me connect Apify to AI agents like Claude. Some community Actors vary in quality, but overall it's reliable and easy to integrate.
What do you dislike about Apify?
It's hard to know the cost before running a big job, so sometimes the bill is higher than I expected. Also, some community Actors are not well maintained and stop working when the website changes.
What problems is Apify solving and how is that benefiting you?
Apify solves the problem of collecting data from websites for our market and competitor research in Central America. Before, we did this by hand or with our own Python scripts that broke often. Now we use ready-made Actors, schedule the runs, and send the data to n8n for our reports. This saves us several hours every week and lets us focus on analysis and sales instead of maintaining scrapers.
What do you like best about Apify?
Simple and safe to use. It feels safe because you don’t connect directly to the tools you want to scrape data from, so you reduce the risk of those tools blocking your account. It’s also simple since you only need to provide an Apify token to Claude AI.

Although the price is cheap, the billing lacks the details that would make the costs more predictable.

What do you like best about Apify?
I really like Apify because it's cheap and cost-effective. I find their data collection extremely good, and I love the options they provide to do a lot of different things for my business. It's also simple to set up, which is a big plus for me.

When some of the information comes back incorrect, there should be a mechanism in place where you get your money refunded, and you don't have to actually pay for that research.

What do you like best about Apify?
Apify is easy to use even for a small personal development project. The cost is reasonable, there is no complicated approval process, and the wide variety of Actors makes it easy to add useful data such as flight and hotel search results.
What do you dislike about Apify?
I would like to see clearer information about how individual Actors are maintained over time. I would also appreciate more transparency about whether data access methods are officially supported or recognized by external services such as Google.
What problems is Apify solving and how is that benefiting you?
Apify solves the problem of accessing useful travel data without relying on expensive APIs or APIs that require approval based on website traffic or business history. As an individual developer, I have been able to implement real-time flight searches and hotel information searches in Travel Compass while keeping costs reasonable and development relatively simple.
What do you like best about Apify?
I like being able to use the actors and established scripts on the website without a lot of tedious parameter setup. I can connect the actor, reuse my pre-established parameters via API and MCP, and then I’m off to the races running batch jobs.

It can occasionally be hit or miss with certain actors, especially those with lower token utilization. That lower token utilization also suggests they haven’t been fully vetted, per se, which likely explains the lower token cost.
