Vultr blocks SMTP port 25 by default
Vultr blocks SMTP port 25 by default, then puts you through a vague, contradictory approval gauntlet: mandatory "business" profile fields that don't fit solo devs, a live website whose email domain must match, and an arbitrary 30-day "normal usage" wait (where dormant doesn't count). All for <50 emails/month. Their own docs say approval is "not guaranteed." Ticket #KZP-00FBV has been open since Oct 18 with no real progress. Save the hassle and pick a provider that just opens the port.

if you have a bug, they throttle ALL your servers for 2 weeks!
Provisioning was instant! Great selection of services. But AI made a coding mistake causing my server to chase it's tail. This led to an ACCOUNT WIDE throttling to unusable levels of ALL MY SERVERS including the servers I pay for 100% dedicated access for TWO WEEKS MINIMUM. That's insane. I am livid. This is NOT HOW YOU TREAT CUSTOMERS. Effectively, their attitude is "We are going to destroy your business infrastructure for 2 weeks as punishment to you because your AI made a coding error and you didn't catch it fast enough... and we didn't even warn you before we throttled your servers. And even if you fix the bug, you're in the penalty box for ALL servers for 2 weeks." AVOID. Vultr is a case study on how NOT to treat customers.

Paid $250, server suspended anyway, and only template replies
I paid $250 for my server. The money left my account, and the server was running on it. Then Vultr suspended it for "non-payment" and threatened to terminate it unless I paid again. I received a termination warning asking for information within 48 hours. I sent everything they asked for, on time. After that, nothing. For over 11 hours, the only replies I got were the same copy-paste message about duplicate tickets, sent twice by a "Technical Support Supervisor." Not one word about my payment. There is no phone support, no live chat, and no way to reach the billing team directly. You are stuck in a ticket queue while your business is offline. In my case, 9 websites went down at once. If you run anything important, think carefully before trusting Vultr with it. When something goes wrong with billing, there is no one to talk to.

WARNING: NEVER USE VULTR! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!
I strongly recommend that everyone stay away from Vultr. Based on our experience, this company behaves like a scam, and its treatment of customers is absolutely unacceptable! They shut down our servers WITHOUT ANY PRIOR NOTICE, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, and brought our entire business operations to a complete stop! How can a hosting company make a decision that destroys a customer's business operations overnight, without giving them any opportunity to protect or retrieve their data?! AND THE WORST PART? THEY ARE STILL CHARGING US FOR SERVERS THEY HAVE DISABLED! WHY ARE WE BEING CHARGED FOR SERVICES WE CANNOT EVEN ACCESS?! For SEVEN DAYS, we have been contacting their support team, explaining how critical this situation is. And what do we receive? "We will check." "Please wait." "Our team is reviewing your case." SEVEN DAYS OF THE SAME USELESS, AUTOMATED RESPONSES! NO SOLUTION! NO ACCOUNTABILITY! NO RESPECT FOR CUSTOMERS! We even respectfully requested just a few hours of temporary server access to retrieve our business data and leave their platform permanently. THEY STILL HAVE NOT RESOLVED THIS SIMPLE REQUEST! This is, without question, the WORST, MOST UNPROFESSIONAL, and MOST DISRESPECTFUL customer service I have experienced in my entire life. How can anyone trust a hosting provider that can suddenly disable critical infrastructure, leave a business completely stranded, continue charging for inaccessible servers, and then take an entire week to respond with nothing but "we are checking"? MY ADVICE TO EVERY BUSINESS OWNER AND DEVELOPER: Use AWS, Hetzner, Namecheap, or another reputable hosting provider. BUT NEVER, EVER TRUST YOUR BUSINESS INFRASTRUCTURE TO VULTR! Your entire business could be taken offline without warning, and when you desperately need assistance, you may receive nothing but automated excuses. Vultr, stop charging us for inaccessible services, give us temporary access to retrieve our data, and take responsibility for what you have done to our business! SEVEN DAYS. ZERO SOLUTIONS. CONTINUED CHARGES. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!

Disappointing Experience with Vultr: Unresolved $1,200 Refund and Account Suspension
Our experience with Vultr has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. Based on our experience, I would advise prospective customers to exercise caution and carefully consider the risks before committing significant funds to the platform. On 7 October 2026, we funded our account with $1,200 to deploy infrastructure for our client. Unfortunately, we encountered account restrictions, billing discrepancies, and difficulties deploying the infrastructure required for our project. We contacted Vultr Support several times to resolve these issues. We also raised concerns about our account balance, missing payment records, and the inability to proceed with our deployment. Instead of receiving a satisfactory resolution, we were informed that our payments had been refunded to our linked payment method on 7 October 2026. The problem is that we have not received the $1,200 refund. We checked our account records and provided our statement of account to support our complaint. Despite this, the refund issue remains unresolved. More concerningly, our account was subsequently suspended rather than our financial concerns being satisfactorily addressed. This situation has caused significant frustration and disruption to our project schedule. We funded the account in good faith to obtain a service, but we have been left without the expected infrastructure, without the funds we are seeking to recover, and without a satisfactory explanation supported by verifiable refund transaction details. We find the handling of this matter unacceptable. Customers should be able to expect transparent billing, reliable support, clear communication about refunds, and fair treatment when account issues arise. Our requests are straightforward: Vultr should provide verifiable evidence of the alleged refund, reconcile our account transactions, explain the account suspension, and return the outstanding $1,200 if the refund was not completed. Until this matter is resolved, our experience has seriously undermined our confidence in Vultr. We are sharing this review to inform other businesses and individuals of our experience and encourage them to keep detailed records of payments, monitor account balances closely, and retain all correspondence when dealing with cloud service providers. We hope Vultr will take this complaint seriously and resolve it promptly.

Avoid at all costs.
This has not been a good experience. 1. I was charged 1100 usd with no notice even though my usage for the month so far is only 160 usd. Unilaterally charging me 7x upfront at completely your own discretion, without notification, warning or prior approval is not acceptable business practice. I hope I don't need to explain why this is completely inappropriate. 2. I was accused of running phishing attacks which as I explained in the ticket is simply not possible, the instances I spun up had the infracting IP assigned to them after the email notifying your team of phishing was received. Had their team done any examination of the logs, the would clearly see this that IP was not assigned to an instance in my account until after the email itself was even received. 3. I am now completely blocked from running some business critical workflows for a reason that is not clear to me. This is not acceptable service, and even after replying with this they simply dug their heels in and said well the IP was in your account at the time the abuse ticket was created, 2 hours after the original email was even received!

What is wrong with your staff
What is wrong with your staff? Do they go around fairs stealing stuff and coming back over and over again to take things from different representatives so that they can get multiple items. Your staff - Sakshi Rai, Rupa Pandey, and Sanskriti Singh came back over and over again to take our marketing collateral despite being told not to do so. They demand 5 of the items at one go. Extremely greedy and disgusting behavior! Super unethical and rude.

Destroyed my instances, still got billed
I tested their cloud API for a bit and tore all the worker nodes down, but their billing engine kept hitting my card anyway. I opened a ticket to get it fixed, but support completely ghosted me after a single useless reply. Now I’m forced to run a bank chargeback just to block them from taking more money for servers that don't even exist. Unbelievable amount of friction for a basic test.

Update: Still Scammers
Scammers, unauthorized charges from them, never replied to my ticket so I had to go through the route of contacting my bank to initiate chargeback. Update: I have reached out to them after my reply, and they supposedly issued a refund that takes 7-10 business days to land. 11 business days later, I've checked with my bank and no transactions from Vultr have been issued. Staying at 1 star, these guys are master scammers :)

Very frustrating experience
I initially used the service as part of a course and tested it using the free credits provided. Those credits were fully consumed without any clear notification, and I was subsequently charged. I contacted support because I was also having trouble accessing my account: the password recovery and account re-entry flows simply didn't work properly for me. At that point, I explicitly told support that I wanted to cancel everything to avoid any further unexpected charges. I also tried to handle this through the dashboard, but I found the interface buggy and the cancellation process far from intuitive. Despite clearly communicating that I wanted everything cancelled, I continued to be charged. Support later explained that I still had pending/active resources. The problem is that this was not clearly explained to me when I first contacted them asking to cancel everything and prevent additional charges. Instead of taking responsibility for the really poor user experience (seriously, it's terrible - one of the worst I've encountered both as a user and a developer) and unclear cancellation process, their response ultimately relied on their Terms of Service to justify the charges. From a customer's perspective, the whole experience felt terrible: buggy account recovery, unclear credit consumption, a confusing cancellation process, unexpected charges, and important information only being provided after further charges occurred. Regardless of what may technically be covered by the Terms of Service, I expect a trustworthy service to make billing, resource usage, and cancellation transparent and easy to understand. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here, and I wouldn't recommend the platform to anyone based on the way this situation was handled.

Signup bonus is a SCAM.DO NOT ENTER YOUR CARD details.
I was just testing the product because I believed I was using free promotional credit, then they charged my card without clearly telling me that the free credit no longer applied. This feels incredibly shady. You can’t advertise free credit, quietly decide someone is not eligible, and then just start charging their card without making that crystal clear first. Support has been useless so far and I’ve had to chase them for an explanation and a refund. I’ll also be disputing the charge with my card provider if they don’t fix it. Update- Vultr promised a refund but never honoured it. After several back-and-forth emails with their support team, Vultr explicitly promised me a refund. However, they never followed through. I've sent multiple reminder emails asking for an update, and they're now completely ignoring me. It's extremely disappointing that a company would promise a refund to resolve a complaint and then simply stop responding. I strongly advise anyone considering Vultr to think twice before providing their credit card details. Based on my experience, their promotional sign-up credit feels like a scam. I signed up expecting free credit, ended up being charged, and now they're refusing to honour their own refund promise. I have screenshots and other proof. Planning to dispute the transaction with the bank.

The WORST possible experience… STAY AWAY!
I had the WORST possible experience I've ever had with Vultr. STAY AWAY! I tried to sample their GPU instances for LLM inference for my new application using their much publicised $250 credit. They told me I had to apply for approval and provide details of my intended use, which I did. They approved me. Then I spent a week trying to get the instance they approved me for working. Either zero availability, or the two slots that were available weren't working. Their support team escalated it to engineering. I think it's 3 days later now and no response. Meanwhile the accounts team tell me actually I need to pay them $50 before I can get access to anything. WHY WOULD ANYONE do this after the experience I've had? RUN AWAY as fast as you can. Any company that treats their customers like this should be avoided at all costs.

Final Notice Regarding Remaining $6.32 Credit
Hi, in regards to Vultr's Ticket ACM-78OER: Please treat this as my final position on this matter. Vultr accepted my $10.00 Alipay payment on March 17, 2025. Your own billing records show that $3.68 was subsequently consumed and that $6.32 remains as legitimate paid credit, with no outstanding charges. I will not link a credit card or PayPal account, make another payment, or purchase an unnecessary subscription or snapshot(which your staff Ruby proposed) merely to regain access to funds Vultr has already accepted. My position is straightforward: restore my ability to use the remaining $6.32 credit normally. If Vultr continues to prevent me from using this legitimate paid balance, I will preserve the complete payment, billing, deployment-error and support records and submit formal complaints to the Florida Office of the Attorney General, Consumer Protection Division, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, with a further report to the Federal Trade Commission where appropriate. I do not require further explanation or debate regarding the credit-card/PayPal requirement. I require resolution of the remaining $6.32 paid balance.

Unfair account closures, ignored support tickets, and retained deposit
I am extremely frustrated with Vultr's service and customer support. A few days ago, I registered an account and deposited funds to try their services. Since I was unable to use the service, I requested a full refund for my deposit. Shortly after making this request, my account was deleted/disabled without any notice or refund of my money. I attempted to contact their support team via email (Ticket Reference: THN-75NSJ), but received no response at all. To follow up properly, I created a second account specifically to open a support ticket regarding the missing deposit. Instead of addressing the issue and processing the refund, Vultr simply disabled the second account as well and continued to ignore my inquiries. I am not asking to reactivate any accounts; I am simply requesting my deposited funds to be returned to my original payment method. Silencing customers by shutting down their accounts and keeping their money is completely unacceptable business behavior. I strongly advise caution to anyone considering depositing funds here.

Uploaded the website to vultr dedicated…
One star. We are an Australian e-commerce business processing around 80 orders a day. We migrated our production site to a Vultr dedicated server. Two days later, with no prior notice, Vultr suspended the account and terminated the service. The reason given was that we were “not a good fit” for their platform. No breach of their acceptable use policy was ever identified to us, before or since. We asked for a short reactivation window so we could export our own data. That request was not granted. We lost access to our production website and its data entirely. Support is US based and does not cover Australian business hours. Our request sat unanswered overnight while our store was offline and orders were not being taken. Vultr also continued charging the balance for the service during the period it was suspended and unusable. Whatever their terms permit, terminating a live e-commerce customer two days in, with no notice, no stated breach and no opportunity to retrieve their own data, is not a reasonable way to run an infrastructure business. If you are running anything commercially critical, keep your backups somewhere other than Vultr and understand that your account can end without warning. We have taken a big loss with lot of data on our website and we will be taking thrm to all the gobernment agencies to file a complain both in USA and Australia.

Do not trust this company
Do not trust this company, they are running a fraudulent trap for new users. Here is my exact experience:The Bait: I registered an account because they promised a $50 bonus credit. However, you cannot use it unless you deposit your own money first. The First Trap: I deposited $10 of my own money. Immediately after paying, they restricted my account and blocked me from creating instances. They demanded my passport information. Since I had already paid, I reluctantly uploaded it, and it passed their system. The Extortion: With the account "verified," I launched 4 instances and started deploying my services. But on the very next day, they terminated all 4 of my server instances without any valid reason!Data Hostage: They are now demanding further sensitive privacy data—a selfie of me holding my passport. I uploaded it, but their system rejected it.They have completely taken my deposited funds and my critical server data hostage using passport verification as an endless excuse. They refuse to offer a refund and refuse to release my data. This is not "security analysis," this is absolute extortion and a data-harvesting scam. I have already filed a Visa chargeback against them. STAY AWAY!

Account Cancellation Request Ignored - Continued Billing Despite Cancellation Request
I submitted a cancellation request for my Vultr account on July 6, 2026 (Ticket GHZ-84FQE). Despite my explicit request to close the account, Vultr's automated billing system continued attempting to charge my account 6+ times over the next 9 days, resulting in account suspension. Key Issues: 1. NO SELF-SERVICE CANCELLATION: There is no option in the dashboard to delete an account or remove payment methods. You must rely on support, which can be slow or unresponsive. 2. CONTINUED BILLING AFTER CANCELLATION REQUEST: Their automated system sent multiple "Autopay failed" emails - proving they continued payment retry attempts AFTER my cancellation request. This is a critical failure. 3. UNRESOLVED SUPPORT TICKET: For 9 days, my cancellation request was not actually processed. Support provided generic deletion instructions but did not close the account. They made it unclear if I needed to pay the balance first. 4. POOR ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT: The account is now suspended, but cancellation is still pending. This should never happen - cancellation requests should immediately stop automated charges. If you use Vultr and ever want to leave, be prepared for a frustrating experience. The service itself works, but their customer support and account management processes need serious improvement.

I had a very disappointing experience with Vultr
I had a very disappointing experience with Vultr. The company advertised a $250 bonus credit to test their services after making a deposit. I deposited $10 as requested, and my account balance showed $260 including the promotional credit. However, when I tried to deploy an instance, I was suddenly informed that I needed to complete additional verification or make a total deposit of $50 before I could actually use the service. This requirement was not made clear before the initial deposit was made. After contacting support, they refused to waive the additional deposit requirement and insisted that I had to deposit more money. I then requested a refund, but I received no proper response and no refund was processed. Shortly after that, my login stopped working entirely. I could no longer access my account, and password recovery emails were never delivered despite multiple attempts. Overall, the entire experience felt extremely misleading and untrustworthy. The promotional offer appears designed to attract deposits first, only to introduce additional undisclosed requirements afterward. I would strongly advise potential customers to be cautious before depositing money with this company. Transparency, communication, and customer handling were very poor in my experience.

The whole experience looked like a scam to me. I signed up and paid for the first month. Then my account was blocked. When I contacted the customer support I received the following response "Due to abuse to our services we are not able to open this account.". By that time I logged in to my account 3 times. Also, they promised to refund my first month. As you probably guessed they did not. When I contacted them about that, they told me that they did, told me to take it with my bank, closed the ticked and stoped responding to my emails. Stay far – far away.

They treat new customers as a threat
I registered on this platform with the sole objective of provisioning a specific high-performance bare-metal configuration (vbm-8c-64gb-amd), valued at roughly $400/month. At no point during registration it was stated that this hardware was gated behind an arbitrary 30-day probationary period. Instead, it's a multi-stage financial extraction process: first demanding a $5 card-linking deposit, then demanding a secondary $50 deposit to unlock instance creation, only to completely block the deployment with a "Monthly Fee Limit Reached" error after they had already secured my funds. To add to this administrative incompetence, the support team demanded proprietary project descriptions, provided broken links to non-existent pages, and ultimately told me I must spend an additional $250 on completely unneeded services over the next 30 days just to "earn" the right to rent the hardware I signed up for in the first place. Treating a customer who arrives with a $4,800 annual contract and then offering an account deletion link as a "solution"—is an embarrassing failure of customer acquisition and basic support etiquette. Just in case anyone from Vultr management is interesting: [Ticket:WIL-89EMZ]

I have never experienced such a poor…
I have never experienced such a poor level of customer support from a cloud provider. Vultr suddenly suspended my account for KYC verification and immediately blocked access to my infrastructure and data. While I understand that verification procedures may be required, what is completely unacceptable is locking customers out of their services and then providing virtually no communication or assistance. For more than 8 hours, I received no meaningful response. My tickets were answered with generic copy-paste messages telling me not to create duplicate tickets instead of providing actual information, an estimated resolution time, or any indication that someone was actively working on the issue. At the time of suspension, my servers contained active business data and production services. Being unable to access my own infrastructure while support remains silent is an unacceptable risk for any company. The most frustrating part is not even the verification itself—it's the complete lack of transparency. There was no clear explanation of what was being reviewed, how long it would take, what was missing, or when I could expect access to be restored. Cloud providers are trusted with critical systems. When a provider can suspend an account without warning, lock access to customer data, and then leave customers waiting for hours with only automated responses, that trust disappears very quickly. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise businesses to think carefully before hosting critical workloads on Vultr. If something goes wrong, you may find yourself locked out of your own infrastructure with no meaningful support when you need it most. Extremely disappointed. I expected professional service from a cloud provider. What I received was silence, uncertainty, and complete disruption of my operations.

Fast servers, hassle-free
I’ve been using Vultr for maybe 3 or 4 small sites, and it’s been solid so far. Servers usually spin up in just a couple minutes, and page loads feel quick even when traffic bumps up a bit. I can’t remember more than one or two tiny hiccups with downtime, if that. The dashboard is simple enough that I’m not wasting 20 minutes trying to find things, which I definitely appreciate. 0 Reply

Tried to rent GPUs
Tried to rent GPUs, they told me I need to deposit, so I deposited $1000. Then they told me I still can't rent GPUs and I need to wait 60 days. Additionally, I can not even spend on regular compute except for a few $5/month nodes! So now they have my money and won't allow me to spend it on any services. Update: After continually demanding Vultr allow the deposit to at least be spent on non-GPU compute, they agreed to increase the account limits. While I still have no access to GPUs which was the purpose of the deposit, the funds are now at least spendable on other services.

We used Vultr based on a recommendation, especially because they offered a $300 trial credit. Unfortunately, after about one week of use, our service was suspended without giving us proper access to our data. The $300 credit, which was supposed to be usable during the trial period, was also removed from our account. This experience made the trial feel misleading, and the lack of access to our data is very concerning for any business relying on hosting services. In our opinion, Vultr is not reliable and cannot be trusted for serious projects. We regret not reading more customer feedback before using them. Avoid.

I do not recommend it Servers restart on their own.
I imagined the service quality had improved, but that hasn't happened, as the same problems from years ago still persist. Unfortunately, this morning the server restarted itself without warning, causing financial losses. Based on what happened, my impression is that it's a cheap VPS service, but without the reliability needed for those who require stable online applications and services. I don't recommend it for professional use or for those who depend on constant availability; the server can simply restart itself and leave your applications offline without any warning! This is very common there.

Worst experience with Vultr
Worst experience with Vultr, although no issues with server hosting and services, but their customer service is pathetic, unhelpful, painfully slow and non-existent. Please avoid if you frequently require support services as you can't expect that to be provided by Vultr.

Setting up the servers is easy
Setting up the servers is easy; however, getting support to reply to a ticket without them jerking you around is why they rate a 1. "Craig" kept asking for information he should have been able to look up. He wasted a full day of him asking for things already given to him or could have looked up. He wasted days with nonsense.

SAFV: STAY AWAY FROM VULTR!
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! Avoid Vultr! SAFV: STAY AWAY FROM VULTR! - They arbitrarily limit your usage under the same pretext: "Your usage affects other people's resources," even if you chose the plan with dedicated resources! - They cancel your promotional credit without warning! - They overcharge you for mediocre service with no possibility of review or consideration of the poor quality of their service. - Even after exchanging tons of messages with their customers service team, you won't get any refund for the mediocre service/high fees you have been charged for...So don't waste your time with them! In short, if you don't want to feel victim and see your hard-earned money flying away… AVOID VULTR! SAFV: STAY AWAY FROM VULTR!

Needed more server locations
Vultr is okay to use, overall, but for me the data center options felt still a bit limited in some places. I was needing servers closer to my users, and because of that, looking somewhere else I had to. 0 Reply

Vultures own Vultr
Vultr is owned by Vultures who assess unsolicited charges against customers including humble High School teachers. I am a HS teacher whose students were looking for a service to run their machine learning model. Students logged into Vultr to learn more, but found Vultrs products too convoluted for them to use. Students NEVER ran their model on Vultr. However Vultr continually assesses charges to this humble teacher months after the students logged into Vultr to learn more. Customer service consists of unhelpful automated emails. Assessing unwanted and unsolicited charges against a humble teacher and his class (who simply wanted more information on Vultr) is pretty low even for the Vultures at Vultr.
