Eight years as a happy customer, but recent changes have been disastrous We have been loyal Deputy customers for eight years and, until recently, I would have had no hesitation in recommending the platform. Unfortunately, the recent changes to their subscription plans and functionality have completely changed my opinion. Since moving to their Lite subscription, basic features that we have relied upon for years, including automatic timesheet rounding, are no longer available without paying for a more expensive plan. What previously took us 15 to 30 minutes to complete each week now takes over an hour, requiring unnecessary manual adjustments to employee timesheets. Even more concerning is that when timesheets are manually rounded, these adjustments are not correctly reflected in Deputy's reporting, resulting in inaccurate wage costings. This is completely unacceptable for a platform businesses depend upon for accurate payroll administration and labour cost reporting. Despite providing Deputy with several detailed examples demonstrating this issue, it has remained unresolved for weeks. This is not simply an inconvenience or a missing feature. It is a fundamental reporting accuracy issue that has serious implications for businesses relying on this information. We have also experienced changes to our reporting functionality, further complicating what were previously straightforward administrative tasks. What has been particularly disappointing is the customer service. Despite extensive correspondence, providing detailed examples and repeatedly explaining the issues, we are still without a satisfactory resolution. Responses have been slow, the matter has been passed between multiple support representatives, and there has been little meaningful acknowledgement of the disruption being caused to our business. After eight years of paying for and trusting this platform, I find it incredibly disappointing that longstanding customers are now expected to pay more to retain functionality they previously enjoyed, while serious reporting inaccuracies remain unresolved. We are not asking for additional features. We simply want the system to perform the basic functions it has reliably performed for years and, most importantly, to produce accurate information. I genuinely never expected to be writing a negative review of Deputy, particularly after being such a satisfied customer for so long. However, we are now on the verge of moving to an alternative provider. Deputy, please listen to your longstanding customers. Accurate timesheets, reliable wage cost reporting and responsive customer support should be fundamental to your service, not something customers have to fight for. It is incredibly disappointing to see what was once an excellent product deteriorate to this extent.
Avoid! Deputy are now using sub processors. Find a better service. There are lots out there!
Deputy software was OK for rostering, timesheets and reporting. Overpriced but was OK. Until now. Now they have changed their reporting so that in order to be able to create a you have to pay extra for Analytics+. They changed the timesheet so that the screen is hard to read and confusing and you can't set pay period dates. They make changes to their product to make it worse and harder to use. We'll be cancelling our subscription as soon as we find a workable solution. I would give them a wide berth if I was looking for a rostering/HR tool.
If I could give these guys 0 stars I would. Their billing process is very misleading. Like MANY online subscription businesses you are automatically enrolled to renew rather than opting in. On top of that they send you these "proactive" emails around the time of your renewal telling you how much you're going to be saving when you renew. But the reality is that you are only saving money compared to the Full Rate they're charging new customers which is 3 x what you used to pay - so you're still paying 2 x what you used to pay, you're not actually saving money. If you try to get hold of an actual person, of course, it is almost impossible and they are completely inflexible once the 12 months ticks over if you haven't opted out. But where do you opt out and how? After being stung so badly last time I've already written to them multiple times telling them that I don't want to auto renew this time - but I'm still getting renewal emails. And paranoid that they will automatically renew my subscription I've done the only thing I could do (because I couldn't actually talk to a real person) so I've gone online and unsubscribed - the result - I'm instantly cut off - even though we've already paid for the rest of the year (because we've been forced to). So now I've paid but I'm not getting the service I have paid for. You guys are the WORST!!! Stay away from these guys.
I had the pleasure of speaking to Baleigh today with and issue I was having on Deputy. We had found a little short cut temporarily until we can get the problem resolved. She was very knowledgeable and extremely polite and friendly to speak to. She was also trying to figure out a way to make my life easier by coming up with a different way to print my reports to save me time. Talking to her made me feel like I have known her forever and that is a breath of fresh air. You don't get that a lot now a days.
The software works as it should aside from some bugs here and there, however the major ongoing concern with Deputy is their customer support/IT issues. They rely heavily on AI responses which are extremely generic and ignore your responses to its prompts which makes resolving issues extremely frustrating and time consuming. When you request a human to get back to you it takes several hours and they always seem to find a way to get you to do the heavy lifting. Our business relies on Deputy to run and their lack of care and sense of urgency is deplorable.
Amazing service, friendly team with sound professional expertise. Great problem solving and fast solutions. Thanks!
Great communication. Always helpful and quick to come to resolutions with queries. Love your work!
I have been a client for many years but my staff rollover recently was the cause of multiple pitfalls discovery in the subscription. I have been paying for staff members left for so long and myself as well as the accountant. Simply I should have archived them where I was not advised to do so until I questioned the recent invoice. Once I explained these poeple left years ago there was no offer to rectify the billing issue and move forward. Now I cancelled the subscription mid month and charged a whole month in advance with the excess dismissed employees again . There is absolutely no customer service support . Sadly discovered the hard way.
I made an error after my trial ended and made my way to the right department who handled my problem in an efficient and timely manner. Thanks so much Tim. Faith restored....
If I could give zero stars I would. Avoid this app at all costs. The hidden charges are awful. The app is usless. There is better out there. And god help you if you want to talk to customer services. Im surprised they are still able to trade.
Need to know further in advance post openings, what, where, pay, hours, etc. Need to know in advance if we get the positions we apply for.We understand that these posts are going to be filled and challenging, but we all have families and they should come first so advanced notice is a priority . Thanks
Kat is amazing!
all good every time
Pathetic service, do not fall for this useless software add ons that dont work but will charge you fully without any apologies for the most tardiness of customer support in even responding. Connect team is 100 times better
As per their contract they did charge me the full years subscription however I pleaded my case and out of goodwill they refunded my unused amount. It's always nice for a company to have an understanding like this and it's not just about contracted words but customer interaction. It makes people want to come back and use their facilities which I will.
After using Deputy for more than ten years extremely disappointed with how they handled an expired card payment. Messaging staff directly is extremely inappropriate.
I'm no longer able to see the actual meal break times for each employee
Look, they jacked up the subscription price to add some useless AI junk, but meanwhile the core scheduling system is completely broken. The last update glitched my payroll codes right before a massive Midtown lunch rush, and I almost overpaid my staff by thousands because of a faulty export script. And when you open an urgent ticket to protect your margins, support just merges the file and completely ghosts you. Total operational liability for a local business.
Lost our payuns details made me struggle for a long time
I9 processing is garbage, cannot onboard new staff without finalizing the document check. Really frustrating for seasonal hires, remote folks, or hiring/onboarding without employees on site. No work around. There's no logical reason why its treated differently than tax documentation.
I love the app. But because I’m not a huge business there’s no wiggle room for price. My issue is a lot of a staff but only a few hours a week sometimes non, so I pay the same as a huge company with full time staff. I make my money off the staff, when they don’t work I pay for nothing.
Deputy used to be good. But then it tried to add things which were unnecessary. Things stopped working, annual leave never worked successfully but I was too busy to look at alternatives. Then they doubled the price (probably because they added AI). So I was forced to look elsewhere. What really annoyed me was I didn't want my subscription to renew but I wanted to use what I had paid for until the subscription was up. No can't do that. And support was generally 'whatever'. As soon as you cancel you loose access even if you have months remaining that you've paid for. THIS IS THEFT. Honestly look at others - I am only scheduling 3 people and ConnectTeams small business plan is much easier to use and free.
I hate Deputy with a passion. Their support is worse than Zero. You spend hours in the chatbox and get no answers apart from cut and paste standard answers.
I am now embarking on a mission to spread the word of how UNBELIEVABLY AWFUL Deputy support is.... It has gotten to the point where my only logical explanation for this nightmare is I am being made a fool for their inner office antics. I have been using them for 3 years. In December 2025 I had an issue adding in new customer locations for staff to clock into. I messaged support that began my journey of ZERO answers, ZERO service, ZERO support, and ZERO progress for the last 4-5 months. Now I need to find another time management software for my company. I get an email every week from someone named Callum on their "support team" who literally says, "This is still under investigation, no new updates". DO NOT use Deputy!!!
DO NOT USE DEPUTY! Deputy has unsuccessfully exported incorrect pay codes to MYOB which resulted in an overpayment to staff for over $3000. Deputy has REFUSED to return any emails, they have admitted there was a problem but have now stopped replying to me as I have requested they refund me this money as we have been told we cannot get this back from staff. There is no customer service, no care and they blatantly lie and blame a user error all the time. If I can save even one small business from this flawed product then that is a win
Avoid Deputy. This is a billing model that relies on being unclear. You are charged around $57 in a way that presents exactly like a normal monthly subscription. There is no clear or prominent point where it is made obvious that you are entering a fixed 12 month commitment with a large cancellation liability. Only when you cancel do you find out you are expected to pay $572 for the remaining term for services that will not be used. That is not transparency. It is a setup that depends on customers not realising what they have been signed into. When raised, support does not address the way this is presented. The response is simply to point to terms and conditions after the fact. The invoice even shows charges for future months after cancellation. If your billing relies on this level of ambiguity, that says everything about how the service is being sold. Proceed with caution.
Since their major update the application is now terrible (prior to this it was fantastic). Slower, clunkier and now very expensive when compared to other platforms. We’ve had multiple support requests open with them for many months, when we asked for a timeline or any understanding to when issues might be fixed, we got not real answer or help. Despite sending videos of our issues and evidence, we had no offer for any compensation and we did ask as well. Has many silly little flaws as well, like allowing scheduling of staff who are marked as unavailable, or how data is rendered on a page making it almost impossible to do anything without having to scroll or open another tab. To be fair, they were brilliant, but since this update and ongoing issues, we had to explore other platforms and have now jumped ship. Deputy for us offered poor support, poor customer service, and extremely expensive. We’ve moved now, paying a third of what we used to pay and have a new product that does the same things for us and without any issues. The support as well from the new company is amazing.
My department has been using Deputy for about 2 years at this point. We switched from a cheaper scheduling software after experiencing too many glitches and reaching limitations as our staff size grew. The positives: It allows you to build out shifts pretty quickly. You can create and save templates for later use. There's also auto-scheduling features: Auto-schedule regular working hours, Auto-build shift structure, and Auto-fill empty shifts. You can customize a lot, such as setting required training for certain areas or setting "stress profiles" to limit how many hours a day/week an employee is scheduled, how many hours between shifts, etc. You can do timesheet approval in Deputy and export them if you use another app for payroll. The negatives: There are little things, like employees can't offer shifts to other employees if they're marked unavailable or it would conflict with their stress profile. The system for adding availability is a little complicated/unclear for employees and causes confusion. (They can add both availability and unavailability, one-offs override everything set up in recurring availability, they have to be very specific about when these availabilities are in effect--not necessarily negatives, but it is hard to navigate and understand.) But the biggest negative aspect of Deputy, which we have just come to learn after using it for 2 years, is that AUTO-SCHEDULING DOESN'T TAKE EMPLOYEE AVAILABILITY INTO ACCOUNT. Somehow, we are just now realizing this. I think it's because we have a team of college student employees and they just haven't spoken up about it. I still need to investigate. But we are in disbelief. The most basic requirement for scheduling software would be to schedule around employee availability, would it not? So for all the wonderful features and granular control that Deputy offers, it is unable to deliver on the most critical requirement. I'm absolutely baffled. If you are interested, here's the reply I received from Deputy staff: "You are correct that, at present, the auto-fill empty shifts feature in Deputy does not ensure that employees are scheduled exclusively when marked as available, nor does it automatically identify conflicts or display warning icons in such cases. The green dot adjacent to an employee's name signifies their eligibility for the shift; however, it does not consistently represent their recorded availability. To minimize these conflicts, we advise thoroughly reviewing the schedule after utilizing the auto-fill function and prior to publishing shifts. Currently, there is no automated method to highlight or filter shifts that conflict with employee availability following auto-scheduling. We acknowledge that this limitation may be frustrating, particularly if you depend on auto-scheduling to save time. Since we don’t currently offer this feature, I would encourage you to submit a feature request using the instructions found in the following guide: Submit feedback to Deputy or request a new feature. While we can’t guarantee implementation, customer feedback is an important part of how we improve our platform and all suggestions are taken into consideration."
Mostly works well, but is certainly not without its faults. The biggest issue for us is support. When something goes wrong, it is extremely difficult and time-consuming to reach a resolution because there is no option to speak to someone over the phone. Everything must go through the online chatbot first, and only once the issue can’t be resolved do you eventually get escalated to a real person via chat or email. For simple problems this may be fine, but for more complex or technical issues, trying to explain everything through typed messages is frustrating, inefficient, and often leads to delays or misunderstandings. Being able to speak directly to a support person would make it far easier and quicker to explain issues and resolve them properly. Because of this lack of accessible, real-time support, we sometimes find that problems take much longer to fix than they should, which can be stressful when payroll or compliance is involved. I find myself just not wanting to even try fix some issues because of how long it will take which just leaves me frustrated. Deputy has a lot of potential, but improved customer support—particularly phone support—would make a significant difference to the overall experience.
Honestly cannot understand how this app appears to be so successful. Now used for almost 1 year. UI/UX is horrendous, dated, laggy loading at times and not a cohesive feeling ecosystem. Odd features/behaviour, for example: 1) If a user is logged into the mobile app, they won't get an email when an employee has requested leave, instead they get an app notification instead meaning inconsistency in action outputs (why even make this the case, or atleast allow the instance to be able to choose or have both email/notification at all times). 2) You cannot really have "approvers" in the traditional sense - you assign a location manager role to a profile, what this means is that all users, irrespective of location, see all "location managers" when they are going for approvals. Very difficult to do something simple like have a single approver for a single employee. The Admin (a passive oversight role) is visible in the manager drop down for employees, meaning leave requests often go to the wrong account. Generally companies have a hierarchy and nested approvers, but this seems alien in deputy world. Philippines support feels very much 1st line support, quotes the web docs which anyone can read, don't understand more deeply customer UX or frustrations. Awful app and genuinely do not understand the glowing reviews.
They have changed their payment tiers to Lite, Core, Pro. In other words they had a price increase disguised as a feature that nobody asked for. Then it was released as opt-out rather than opt-in. Continual development of features we dont want, and the users keep get price increases. Basic features removed from lite to core so we have to pay more to get what we already had.
The more I use this system, the more disillusioned I become at the waste of my time trying to do the simplest thing in the most complicated and uninstinctive way. It serves as job creation if anyone can handle the boredom and exasperation of it all. Pen and paper documents scanned in would be far quicker. This is the very embodiment of the Emperor's New Clothes to those not entombed by obsession of the virtual.
The support is extremely disappointing. Not only is the response time painfully slow, but the responses completely ignore the details of my requests. What’s the point of having support if they don't even listen? I can spend an entire week going back and forth, explaining simple tasks that still remain unresolved. It’s incredibly frustrating, especially when you’re managing 100+ employees and just need the system to work.
I have no idea why this product is rated so highly. The customer service is slow, we have not had 1 week where there hasn't been issues. If you are with MYOB and want to integrate - FORGET IT. We have had to update a file every week so that MYOB will accept it. If you pay staff above award rate - FORGET IT. We paid for one business for the year in full and couldn't get it working because of the MYOB issue (customer service didn't tell me this was the problem originally) and the week after I had paid in full they told me I could cancel but I wouldn't get any refunds. Not one customer service team member called me to discuss what the problems were. Also there is no direct integration to pull staff from MYOB to deputy, you have to manually enter them at both ends - it won't import the staff members details. I am currently waiting on chat AGAIN as the award was updated (thats what they tell me) and i have to change the file so every award category is under 31 characters so that myob will accept the file. Waste of money and a waste of time, they honestly couldn't care less if the product doesn't work for you.
Brilliant app, works well for our service. We have been using since September 2024
There was a glitch at first. This was fixed in a timely manner Easy to navigate around Looking forward to making life easier for staff and myself at work
I have received no support from Deputy. I handle payroll, and since this platform is paired with payroll, I expected better. Unfortunately, it has been a huge letdown. I’ve been waiting for over a month now for a response to an issue that was caused by Deputy. When I start a new ticket, someone initially works on it, but as soon as the issue is escalated, they merge my tickets, and then communication stops entirely. The least they could do is inform me if they are unable to resolve the problem they caused
New starters find navigating around the system easy and I find this helpful when presenting step by step process to them.
much easier to use than I originally thought it was going to be
This system used to be ok & in the last 8 months it has gotten worse & worse. Not giving notifications so staff are turning upto unconfirmed shifts, us not being aware that our staff have not been able to claim shifts through the app wondering why there's hundreds of hours lost in unclaimed shifts up to 10k in a week. No accountability blaming human error on our end for changes when we've been scheduling the same way for years and given the run around with escalating tier 1 tier 2 tier 3 problem and never getting resolved.
Deputy has been an amazing addition to our newly opened business, helping simplify the hospitality pay process and save so much time! The support is fantastic, very quick responses and great follow up. Highly recommend!
Real time updates on roster and costs.
Very easy to use. Great for communication with my team.
good app , well received by staff
This software is easy to use and plan schedules. All the staff find the app easy to use.
Deputy is a user-friendly, easy to set up and navigate software for your HR/Payroll tasks.
Easy to use both for rosters and clocking in / out. App seems to freeze a bit on my phone
